Gillian Lynne is a very famous and respected ballerina dancer and choreographer from Britain. But how she became the choreographer and dancer?, there is a very interesting story behind it and also a very crucial lesson for all of us to understand.
When Gillian was just 8 years old her mother got a complain letter from Gillian’s school teacher. The letter said that Gillian was very restless and she couldn’t sit calmly at a place for long. And also couldn’t concentrate in class. In fact she disturbed her classmates, and did not complete her homework. Her hand writing was also very bad. And then at the end of the letter the teacher wrote that she had a doubt that Gillian was suffering from a learning disorder disease. And suggested that she should get Gillian admitted in a special school.
After reading all this the Gillian’s mother got very worried. She thought that she must take her daughter to a good psychologist. She thought may be the psychologist would understand the problem better and may also suggest some solutions and cure for the problems.

Then, Gillian’s mother took the daughter to a renowned psychologist. Gillian and her Mom sat before the psychologist in his cabin. Gillian’s mother started talking to the psychologist about the problems of her daughter. However when both Gillian’s mother and psychologist were discussing about the problems Gillian is supposed to have he was also noticing and observing the Gillian’s activities and body language in between.
After talking for around 20 minutes the psychologist suddenly interrupted Gillian’s mother. He turned towards Gillian and said “I want to have a personal talk with your mother, for that me and your mother are going outside the cabin for a little time. And then we will come back.”
But before leaving the cabin the psychologist turned on a radio which was placed on a table beside him. Actually there were a radio sitting on a table beside him. Before leaving the cabin with the mother he just switched it on and took the mother outside the cabin.
As soon as they both left the cabin and shut the door behind them, Gillian jumped from her seat and started dancing on the music playing on the radio. Standing near a window of the cabin, the psychologist asked Gillian’s mother to look through the window to see what her daughter was doing. When Gillian’s mother looked into the cabin, she was amazed to see her daughter dancing very graciously on the music playing on the radio.
The psychologist turned towards the mother smiled and said your daughter is not sick, she is a dancer. You don’t need to send her to any special school, you send her to a dance school. Gillian’s mother followed the psychologist advice and immediately admitted her into a dance school. Rest is then just history.

Like Gillian we all also have a special talent hidden inside us. The only thing which is required is to know it, understand it and to unleash it. However the problem is most of the time we can’t recognise it and it keeps hidden inside us forever. It is not necessary that if you are not able to do one thing then you will not be able to do any other thing in life. If you fail in one thing then you will fail in every other thing in life.
In our society, we mostly judge people on the basis of their marksheet and their performance in school studies. If somebody performs good in school or college we mark him as an intelligent and bright person whereas if somebody fails in performing in his school or college then we mark him as a dull or incapable person.
Nonetheless it is not like this at all. You can never gauge everybody on the same scale. School’s studies are very important for us, however we can not judge one’s whole life on the basis of the score in his marksheet. We all are different. We all have different personalities. We all have different liking and disliking. One has interest in one thing other has interest in other thing.
Just imagine, if Sachin Tendulkar gets influenced by some successful actor and tries to become an actor, will he be able to become a successful actor? If Shahrukh or Salman after looking at Sachin tries to become a successful sports person, will they be able to become a successful sports person? They all are successful because they never tried to copy and follow others, they just pursued their passion and did what they had interest in.
They neither felt sad for not being like somebody else nor people judged them on the basis of their incapability of following some other profession or being like somebody else. They all were different, had different interests, enjoyed doing different things, made their career in their different profession still never got judged on their incapability of not becoming like somebody else.
Why? Because we all are not same, then how can we gauge everybody on same scale? We need to understand ourselves. We need to find out what our passions are, what are the type of things we have interest in, What are our likings and dislikings. What is the type of work we love and enjoy doing. What are the unique talents we have inside us.
Try to find out the answers of these very important questions about yourself. Then give your everything, do your best, in fact a little more than your best and you will also get lots of success in your life. Like Gillian and other successful personalities who knew what they were and did just that only, without worrying about what others think of them.
